Cave Michelangelo

There is only one marble quarry that occasionally yields blocs of such titanic dimensions, - the Cave Michelangelo. Already in Ancient Rome this marble was used for many of the major monuments, such as the Trajan Column, the arches of Settimo Severo and Tito, the Apollo Palatino and many others. And it was also here that Michelangelo personally selected the blocs and directly processed them for his most important works (such as the Piétà or the grave of Julius II).

The Cava Bernini section of the Cave Michelangelo three years ago with the position (x) of the future bloc for the Coat of Peace.
